Employee Parking
DOWNTOWN EMPLOYEES
Downtown employees are encouraged to park in outlying areas, use X or D permits to leave downtown core area parking spaces for customers or to use alternative transportation such as bikes or buses.
PARKING PERMITS
“X” Permits – “X” Permit parking is available to downtown residents and employees only. Vehicles displaying valid ”X” permits may park in designated “X” permit street spaces and in various parking lots surrounding the Downtown Core. Residents must show proof of residency, valid California Driver’s License, and a valid vehicle registration. Employees must provide proof of employment in order to purchase an “X” permit, Downtown business owners may purchase “X” permits for multiple employees with one application. Each “X” permit is $75 annually and is pro-rated from October 1.
“D” permits - “D” permits are available for purchase only by managers or owners of businesses within Parking District #3 – defined as the area bound by Third Street to the north; the railroad tracks by Third Street to the north; the railroad tracks to the east; First Street to the south; and D Street to the west. Vehicles displaying “D” permits may park on the top level and certain sections of the mid-level of the First and F Street Parking Structure all day. “D” permits are $24 and may be purchased for each employee of a business.
“W” permits - Vehicles displaying valid “W” permits may park unrestricted in designated street spaces within the area bound by A and B streets and First and Russell Blvd. “W” permits are $10 and are available to residents and businesses within this area. Number of permits available to each business is determined individually.
“R” permits - Unrestricted parking in designated street spaces along I and Fourth streets is available to vehicles displaying “R” permits. “R” permits are $10 and are available only to residents within this area. Applications for parking permits are available at Finance Dept. (City Hall, 23 Russell Blvd.), the Hunt Boyer Mansion (604 Second Street), and the Davis Police Dept. (2600 Fifth Street). Applications must be submitted by the eligible parties to which the vehicles belong. Minimum requirements can include verification of a valid California Driver’s License, vehicle registration and a business license. Complete applications may be submitted at the Police Dept., Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., or Saturday, 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. Permits are valid from October 1 through September 30 of the following year. PERMIT PARKING IN THE FOURTH AND G GARAGE
A limited amount of monthly permits for the Fourth and G garage are available for $40 a month. Contact Allright Central Parking, (916) 441-1074.
ELECTRIC VEHICLE CHARGING
Four public electric vehicle-charging stations are available in the downtown. There is one station in Parking Lot #2 (South F Street lot), one in the Southern Pacific Depot lot and two stations in the Fourth and G parking garage. Cars that do not use charging stations are not allowed to park in these spaces.
MOTORCYCLE PARKING
Motorcyclists are encouraged to park in specially marked motorcycle spaces in Lot #2 (South F Street lot) and Lot #3 (North F Street lot).
PARKING ENFORCEMENT
90-minute and two hour parking is enforced Monday through Saturday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. along streets and in lots, with no enforcement Sundays and holidays. Check parking signs for specifics.
OVERNIGHT PARKING RESTRICTIONS
Parking is prohibited from 2 a.m. to 6 a.m. on certain streets downtown to accommodate weekly street sweeping. Overnight parking is not allowed at the SP Depot without an Amtrak permit. Check parking signs for specifics.
TOWING
Your vehicle can be towed or impounded or immobilized by a parking boot for the following reasons; 1) five or more outstanding parking tickets, 2) parking in a posted unauthorized area or in an unsafe manner, 3) parking in a private lot that is properly signed stating that it is restricted to employees and customers of that building only.
AMTRAK PARKING
The SP Depot Parking lot, adjacent to the train station is free to riders of Amtrak. Parking is restricted to Amtrak riders only Monday – Friday, 5 a.m. to 5 p.m. Amtrak riders must have an Amtrak parking pass to put in their car window or be subject to a written parking violation. On weekdays, parking is unrestricted in the Amtrak lot after 5 p.m. and there are no restrictions on Saturday, Sundays and holidays.
