Re-Parking Restriction
The Davis city council recently approved a new ordinance that will restrict re-parking on city streets in the same block downtown, including city parking lots.
For example, if you parked your vehicle at 9:30 a.m. in a two-hour zone in the 300 block of E Street, the vehicle would need to be moved from the 300 block of E Street by 11:30 a.m. (not just to another space on the 300 block of E Street) or you risk receiving a parking ticket. The re-parking restriction includes both sides of any block between two intersections.
Drivers cannot return to the same block for four hours. This does not affect the three-minutes passenger loading zones and the 20-minute parking spaces throughout the downtown area.
The Auto-Vu system, purchased by the city of Davis last year, will help enforce this restriction. Signs for the new restriction will go up in mid- to late-April; warnings instead of tickets will be given for the first two weeks of the program.
The re-parking restriction applies to all vehicles parked in timed parking zones in the downtown core area as follows:
• Downtown core area – bounded by Fifth Street on the north, First Street on the south, A Street on the west and the Union Pacific railroad tracks on the east;
• B Street between Fifth and Seventh Street, east side of the street
• C Street, between Fifth and Sixth Street, west side of the street
• G Street, between Fifth and a point approximately 100 feet north, east side of the street
• G Street, between Sixth Street and a point approximately 260 feet north, east side of the street
• I Street, between Third Street and the Union Pacific railroad tracks, west side of the street
• I Street, between Third Street and a point approximately 45 feet south, east of the street
• Third Street, between I Street and the Union Pacific railroad tracks, both sides of the street
• Fourth Street, between I Street and the Union Pacific railroad tracks, both sides of the street
• Sixth Street, between B Street and C Street, south side of the street
You may download a flyer on the re-parking restriction below. We suggest that downtown business owners inform their employees of this change.
